About the property
What is Ambervale Boutique Hotel?
Ambervale is a 22-room boutique hotel occupying a restored 1896 homestead in the heart of Bathurst, New South Wales — Australia's premier cool climate wine region. The property combines heritage architecture and character with modern comfort, offering individually finished rooms, à la carte breakfast, free parking, and a In the heart of town that places visitors within walking distance of restaurants and minutes from over 40 cellar doors.
How old is the building?
The homestead dates to 1896, when Bathurst was flourishing in the late-Victorian period; it has been carefully renovated and enlarged to serve as boutique lodging. Pressed-metal ceilings, hardwood floors, ornate fireplaces and period joinery still showcase Federation-period workmanship.
How many rooms does Ambervale have?
You'll find twenty-two guest rooms and suites split between the main homestead and added wings — categories include Deluxe Queen, Deluxe King/Twin, Accessible Deluxe, Executive Suites, Executive Suite — fully accessible, plus Heritage Wing options: Ambervale Suite, Steeple Suite, and The Beech Tree Garden Suite. Every room comes with its own ensuite, reverse-cycle air conditioning, mini-bar, tea and coffee pods, smart TV, and complimentary WiFi.
Where exactly is Ambervale located?
We're at 41 William Street in the centre of Bathurst NSW — a seven-minute walk to the restaurant precinct (Lucetta, Fiorini's, Union Bank and others), about five minutes by car to the closest cellar doors, and centrally located for day trips to wineries across the region. Sydney lies roughly 3.5 hours west via the Blue Mountains. Full distance breakdowns appear on our Travel times and directions to the hotel page.
Guest rooms and suites
How much does it cost to stay at Ambervale?
Low-season pricing starts at $329 midweek and $439 on weekends for two guests in a Deluxe King — each rate covers a two-course à la carte breakfast in the Ambervale Hotel Dining Room. Tariffs shift with season and day of week; midweek tends to offer the best value, while FOOD Week (April), Wine Festival (October) and public holidays can run higher. Suite categories sit above standard room rates, and direct bookings unlock seasonal packages.
Does my room have a view or balcony?
A private balcony — with views over the Front Lawn and William Street — is exclusive to the Ambervale Suite. Remaining rooms open onto garden views: pleasant greenery rather than sweeping panoramas. Within the Heritage Wing, The Steeple Suite frames distant church steeples, while The Beech Tree Garden Suite overlooks the heritage-listed beech tree.
Which rooms are quietest?
For peace and quiet, consider Room 19 (Queen), Room 13 (Suite), or Rooms 5 and 6 (King) — these see the least foot traffic and outside disturbance. Heritage Wing suites sit in a calm part of the property, but original period windows can admit more street noise. Tell us about any preferences — quiet location, chosen suite or celebration plans — at booking and we will match requests where possible.
Can I request a specific room?
Booking through our website lets you ask for specific room preferences. Outline what matters — space, heritage or modern character, view, daylight, bathtub versus shower, a tucked-away spot — and identify a room or type. Assignment follows availability, but staff give preference to these notes, particularly for advance reservations.
Do rooms have bathtubs?
Ensuite layouts vary by room; the building's heritage structure restricts what fixtures each bathroom can accommodate. Mention at reservation if a bath is essential and we will guide you toward compatible options.
Is there air conditioning and heating?
Individual reverse-cycle units regulate temperature in every room. Bathurst runs through distinct seasons — frosty winter mornings and summer afternoons climbing into the high twenties — so reliable in-room climate control is essential all year.
Booking & policies
How do I book?
Make a reservation on this site, call +61 2 6338 4712, or email Reach us at bookings@ambervalehotel.com. Direct bookings give you the lowest published rate, first consideration for room requests, help planning before you arrive, and transparent conditions.
What is the cancellation policy?
You may modify or cancel standard bookings until 2 PM local time, 48 hours ahead of check-in. After that cut-off, one night's accommodation is charged. No-shows pay the entire booking value. Non-refundable fares cannot be altered after purchase. Extended-stay rates carry cancellation penalties of two nights (stays of 7+ days) or seven nights (30+ days) inside the 48-hour period. FOOD Week, Wine Festival and other peak dates may need extra notice — conditions are stated when you confirm.
What time is check-in and check-out?
Check-in opens at 2:00 PM; checkout is by 10:00 AM. Early arrival or late departure hinges on house occupancy — enquire at booking or on the day. We can store luggage if you land early or fly out late and wish to explore Bathurst hands-free.
Is there a minimum stay requirement?
Single-night stays are welcome on most dates because no minimum applies routinely. FOOD Week, Wine Festival and select long weekends sometimes need a two-night commitment — verify against your travel dates when you get in touch.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, cash, and EFTPOS (in person at the hotel). Diners, JCB and UnionPay are declined. Surcharges align with RBA rules: no charge on EFTPOS, 1.95% on Visa/Mastercard, 3.95% on American Express. Under RBA card-payment reforms, these surcharges end on 1 October 2026.
Are you pet friendly?
Pets are not permitted, though registered assistance and support animals may stay. Ambervale Hotel Pty Ltd applies this rule uniformly.
Do you allow children?
Guests of any age are welcome when travelling with an adult; Ambervale is a family-friendly hotel, not adults-only. Portacots can be supplied in limited quantity on request. The Beech Tree Garden Suite and The Ambervale Suite suit families best — each combines a King bed with a sofa bed.
Arrival, parking & accessibility
What time does reception close?
Reception is staffed 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM every day.
How do I check in late?
Arriving past 7:00 PM? Tell us beforehand. On the day you arrive, we'll text lock-box entry details. A brief phone pre-check-in before departure makes after-hours arrival smoother.
Do you have parking?
Free assigned parking is included — use the check-in bay on arrival and a team member will direct you to your bay. The driveway cannot accommodate caravans or coaches. Contact us in advance if you're bringing an oversized vehicle so we can reserve suitable parking.
Is there a lift in the hotel?
Ambervale operates a single lift reaching the first floor. Level one holds the Executive Suites, Executive Suite — fully accessible, and the Queen Room. Ground floor accommodation is limited to the Deluxe King and Accessible Deluxe King — no suites occupy that level.
Is there a lift up to the Heritage suites?
The Heritage Wing is stair access only — no lift serves that wing. Guests who need step-free access should choose the ground-floor Deluxe King or Accessible Deluxe King, or a first-floor suite via the property lift. Luggage assistance is available; mention your needs when booking and staff will meet you at the check-in bay.
Is there accessible accommodation?
Step-free options include the Accessible Deluxe (King or Twin on the ground floor) and Executive Suite — fully accessible (first floor, lift access). Because the Heritage Wing lacks a lift, we steer mobility-limited guests away from those rooms. Phone or email to explain your requirements and we'll suggest the best match.
Do you have an EV charger?
Electric-vehicle charging is not available on property. Closest public chargers are Tesla Superchargers at the Summer Centre / IGA in Bathurst — a brief drive from the hotel.
Morning meal & dining
Is breakfast included?
B&B and package tariffs already cover a two-course à la carte breakfast built from local and regional ingredients; add breakfast separately to any other rate if preferred. Choosing a B&B fare is the simplest way to secure morning dining.
Do we have to book in for breakfast?
Include breakfast when reserving your room, or arrange it at reception the prior afternoon. Service runs 7:30–9:30 AM in the Ambervale Hotel Dining Room.
Do you have a restaurant?
In-house guests dine on a two-course à la carte breakfast at the Ambervale Hotel Dining Room on site. Lunch and dinner are reserved for group functions and private events — not daily à la carte service. For midday and evening meals around Bathurst, we recommend local favourites and can reserve tables for you.
Can you make restaurant reservations for me?
Staff will book restaurants and match venues to your party size, palate, spend and celebration. Newcomers to Bathurst find this especially useful for choosing the right setting on the right night.
Wine country & local recommendations
Can you help plan my cellar door visits?
Winery itinerary planning is one of our most popular concierge offerings. Drawing on familiarity with more than 40 producers, staff shape cellar-door routes around your tastes, schedule and travelling party. Guests on packages or direct reservations receive a custom cellar-door plan before they arrive.
Which wineries do you recommend?
The best choice hinges on your mood. Craft beer lovers should head to Badlands Brewery. Pair a relaxed tasting with a Lake Canobolas stroll at Rowlee or Seesaw. Printhie or Fiorini's suit a premium lunch or polished tasting flight. Wineries serving food usually want advance bookings — ring ahead before making the drive.
Which restaurants do you recommend?
Where you eat should match the night you want. Union Bank handles most situations comfortably. Gong Thai at the Gladstone Hotel delivers casual, welcoming dining or takeaway. La Milano Italian nails mid-range pricing, particularly wood-fired pizza. Lucetta tops the list for upscale Italian. Hey Rosey appeals when you want something unconventional. Printhie, Rowlee and Macquariedale — with views toward Mt Canobolas — excel for winery lunches. Monty's occupies the mid-to-upper tier. Fiorini's leads the field; its chef once helmed Lolli Redini, so reserve lunch or dinner well in advance.
What's genuinely open late in Bathurst (after 8 PM)?
Tuesday to Saturday, Lucetta Dining serves until 11 PM. Ignite Bar & Grill shuts at 10 PM Wednesday through Saturday. Union Bank operates until 10 PM every day except Tuesday closures in winter. Casual takeaway: Gracies (burgers and beer) to 10 PM, Red Pepper Indian to 9 PM, Gong Thai at the Gladstone to 8:30 PM — kitchen stops taking food orders at 8:20 PM.
Where's the best coffee or breakfast if I'm out early?
Early risers do well at William Street Café, opening daily at 7:00 AM. Scrumptious is a strong alternative for breakfast; Racine, Sugarmill and Provence excel for pastries and coffee.
How do I get around Bathurst — Uber or taxi?
Take a taxi — rideshare is thin on the ground in Bathurst.
Groups, events & business
Can Ambervale host a corporate stay or conference?
The Howick Room accommodates retreats, off-sites, intimate conferences and workshops for groups up to 44. Layouts include boardroom, classroom, U-shape and banquet formats; AV gear and catering are on offer. All 22 rooms allow the full delegation to sleep on property. Planning detail lives on our Conference Accommodation page.
Is Ambervale suitable for weddings?
Intimate weddings and adjacent celebrations fit the property: Howick Room receptions for up to 44 guests, with all 22 rooms housing the wedding party on site. Historic architecture and mature gardens create a memorable photo backdrop. Reach out by phone or email to explore wedding dates and options.
Can I book for a group?
Parties needing four or more rooms work with our team on single-invoice billing, room distribution, group activities and restaurant planning. You can also book exclusive use of the whole hotel for private gatherings.
How does a company book several rooms or set up direct billing?
Multi-room reservations and direct billing are managed by the General Manager — contact Reach us at bookings@ambervalehotel.com or phone +61 2 6338 4712 for rates and invoicing details.
Can I extend my stay?
Once new dates are locked in, phone or email immediately to extend — that's the fastest way to hold additional nights. Depending on how you originally booked, extended-stay pricing may be available.
Do you offer packages for private celebrations?
If you're marking a honeymoon, anniversary, wine-focused break, or another special date, we can shape the stay around it. Tell us what you're celebrating when you reserve so staff can propose in-room extras and meal setups.
Getting here
How do I get to Bathurst from Sydney?
Allow roughly three and a half hours behind the wheel on the Great Western Highway and Mitchell Highway across the Blue Mountains — through Katoomba and Lithgow before you reach Bathurst. The drive is attractive and straightforward enough to finish in one stint, though Katoomba or Leura in the mountains section are ideal spots to get out and stretch.
How do I get to Bathurst from Canberra?
Canberra sits about three and a half hours distant on the Barton, Hume, and Olympic Highways via Cowra. Choose the tablelands alternative through Bathurst instead and the trip stretches to nearer four hours.
Is there a train or bus to Bathurst?
Bathurst is on the TrainLink network, but services are infrequent — for practical cellar-door hopping you'll want your own vehicle or a booked group tour bus.
